Taking pictures at funerals is the hardest assignment for me, even when the family has given us permission. I often get teary, even when I have no tie to the family. I always feel that the shutter has somehow been amplified so that everyone can hear each click. However, I do feel that soldiers who die in combat deserve to be recognized and written about. I thank the family of SPC. Christopher A. Patterson, who died in Afghanistan, for allowing us to be a part of their grieving process.
